Turn the tables in PDFs, scans, photos and statements into spreadsheets for Excel, Google Sheets or CSV, with balances and totals checked.

Convert a file

  1. 1Drop a PDF on the page, choose a file, or choose Take a photo to photograph the page with your phone or laptop camera. Check the photo is sharp, then Use this photo.
  2. 2If the file has a password, enter it when asked; it is used once and never stored.
  3. 3A PDF with text in it comes back at once. A scan or photo takes a few seconds a page; you can leave and find it under Recent.
  4. 4Download CSV, or Excel on a paid plan. Excel puts each table on its own sheet, with real numbers and dates.

Bank statements

  1. 1A statement is recognised by its columns: dates, money in and out, and a balance.
  2. 2Every row is checked against the running balance. Rows that do not add up are highlighted; tick Only these to see just them.
  3. 3Compare each with the statement. Usually a row was read wrongly; occasionally the bank's own figures disagree.
  4. 4Statements can be imported into Budget planner, where they become categorised transactions.

Invoices, receipts and other tables

  1. 1Any table with a row of headings is read: invoices, receipts, price lists, payslips, results sheets.
  2. 2Where the document gives something to check against, it is checked: quantity times price on each line, and the lines against a printed subtotal and total, allowing for VAT, discounts and delivery.
  3. 3A file with several tables shows each one separately. A table that runs over several pages is joined into one.

Getting a good read from a photo

  1. 1Lay the page flat, in good light, without shadows across it.
  2. 2Fill the picture with the page. A slight angle is straightened, and a page photographed sideways or upside down is turned the right way.
  3. 3Check any flagged figure against the paper: a figure read from a picture can be wrong, and the checks are there to catch it.
